Biography

Zhang Xinhua, Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, Department of Urology, Chief Physician, Professor, Ph.D., and Supervisor of Master's and Doctoral Students.

He has extensive experience in refractory erectile dysfunction, benign prostatic hyperplasia, complex urethral stricture, refractory urinary incontinence, prostatitis, bladder cancer, kidney cancer, prostate cancer, male infertility, and urinary calculi. He is skilled in minimally invasive urologic surgery and andrological surgery, such as penile prosthesis implantation for refractory erectile dysfunction, seminal vesiculoscopy for hematospermia and obstructive azoospermia, microsurgical varicocelectomy, microsurgical vasovasostomy, and testicular prosthesis implantation. He uses the Renova low-energy shock wave system to treat erectile dysfunction and patients who wish to improve sexual performance.

He has published 25 high-quality SCI-indexed papers, including 15 as first author. His research on benign prostatic hyperplasia, erectile dysfunction, and overactive bladder is at an internationally leading level. In 2013, he was elected as a National Committee Member of the Andrology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association. He has reviewed more than 20 manuscripts for European Urology and was twice invited to write editorials for its important articles. He has led six national-level research projects. His cumulative SCI impact factor is 89. In 2006 (at age 35), he was appointed full professor. In 2007, he was selected for the Ministry of Education“New Century Excellent Talents” program. In June 2012, he was additionally appointed as a doctoral supervisor at Wuhan University. In 2013, he was appointed Deputy Director of the Urology and Andrology Research Center of Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University.

In 2013, he served as an editorial board member of The Journal of Sexual Medicine (2008 SCI impact factor: 6.29). He studied under the world-renowned Professor Arnold Melman and performs more than 100 penile prosthesis implantations annually. After completing his training abroad and returning to China, he took the lead in performing several such surgeries in Wuhan, all with satisfactory outcomes. He modified microsurgical varicocelectomy, significantly shortening operative time and improving efficacy; he has performed more than 200 such procedures. His research on benign prostatic hyperplasia, erectile dysfunction, and overactive bladder is at an internationally leading level.
